Summary

Everyone has experienced this before: Outside on the street, you still have decent cell reception, but as soon as you get into the meeting room, nothing works anymore. Wall elements made of metal parts and heat-insulating glazing on the windows unintentionally create a strong shielding of 5G signals. However, 5G data access only makes sense if there are smart ways to get the signal into the building.

Technically, repeaters or micro base stations are offered to solve this problem. Both are quite complex solutions that require considerable installation and, because they are active solutions, require energy.

The window frame coupler solution proposed here involves transmitting the 5G signal into the room through antenna structures on the outside and inside of the window frame. In the vast majority of cases, this will enable sufficient 5G reception. The solution can also be used as a retrofit for existing buildings. It requires no additional power.
